For most visitors planning a trip to Rhodes, the best base in Marmaris is the town centre: the old town around the castle and the marina. The passenger port where the Rhodes ferries leave is about a 15-minute walk from the centre, so an early boat needs no taxi. If the beach matters more than the ferry, look at the Uzunyalı–Siteler seafront, İçmeler, or the quieter bay of Turunç.
We haven’t stayed at these hotels ourselves; we picked them on location, published details and guest ratings.
Short answer
- Best area overall: Old town and marina. The castle, bazaar, restaurants and the ferry port are all walkable, and you won’t need a car.
- Best for the night before the Rhodes ferry: the old town lanes between the castle and Netsel Marina. The passenger port is about 100 m past the Netsel Marina entrance.
- Best for the beach: the Uzunyalı–Siteler seafront, with sand in front of the hotels and a short dolmuş or taxi ride into town.
- Best for families: a Uzunyalı–Siteler hotel with a kids’ pool and kids’ club, close to the beach and not far from the port.
- Best for a quiet bay: Turunç or Selimiye. Lovely, but far from the port, so spend your last night before the ferry in the centre.
- Budget tip: small boutique hotels and apartments in the centre usually cost less than the big beach hotels, and prices drop noticeably outside July and August.

Areas
| Area | Good for | Distance from the passenger port (Rhodes ferries) | Vibe |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old town and marina | Night before the ferry, couples, 1–3 nights | Roughly 5–15 minutes on foot | Castle, narrow lanes, marina, Bar Street |
| Uzunyalı – Siteler (Armutalan behind) | Beach, families, week-long stays | About 2 km west of the centre; short taxi or dolmuş | Long beach, large hotels, seafront road |
| İçmeler | All-inclusive hotels, quieter beach holiday | About 7 km from the centre; taxi or dolmuş | Tidy resort at the western end of the bay |
| Turunç | Couples, quiet bay, nature | Over the hills; a winding drive | Small bay, boutique hotels |
| Selimiye / Bozburun | Long, slow stays, boats, village feel | On the Bozburun peninsula, far from the port | Fishing villages, stone houses |
Old town and marina
The heart of Marmaris is the old town between the castle and Netsel Marina. The castle, the covered bazaar, the marina restaurants and the quay where the boat trips leave are all here. The Rhodes ferries leave from the passenger port just past Netsel Marina, so if you’re catching a morning boat, this is the least stressful place to sleep. You can also walk from the seafront part of the centre to Uzunyalı beach.
The trade-offs are noise and parking. The lanes around the castle are steep and narrow, and some hotels can’t be reached by car. Places near Bar Street can be loud until late on summer nights. Few hotels have a pool, and rooms tend to be small. It suits couples and solo travellers staying one to three nights; families with small children may be happier at a beach hotel with a pool.
Uzunyalı – Siteler (Armutalan behind)
Uzunyalı beach runs west from the centre to Siteler, lined with large hotels with pools and beach areas. Armutalan, set back from the sea, is a residential area with more apartment hotels and cheaper stays. According to the listings of the hotels below, this strip is about 2 km from the centre.
You can walk to the port, but it’s a long walk with luggage, so plan on a taxi or dolmuş for an early ferry. In return you get bigger rooms, pools, kids’ clubs and the sea on your doorstep. It’s a good balance for families and anyone who wants beach days with evenings in town.
İçmeler
İçmeler is a separate resort at the south-western end of Marmaris Bay, a few kilometres from the centre. It has a well-kept beach and promenade, and most hotels are large and run on an all-inclusive basis. Evenings are calmer than in the centre, with people strolling along the seafront.
It isn’t a practical base for the ferry: you’ll need a taxi or dolmuş to the port, and that takes time early in the morning. It makes sense for a week-long beach holiday with a day trip to Rhodes squeezed in. If your ferry is early, a last night in the centre is the safer option.
Turunç
Turunç is a small bay over the hills behind İçmeler, popular with couples for its beach, boutique hotels and calmer feel. Z-Villas, listed below, puts itself about 9 km from central Marmaris as the crow flies; the road is a mountain road, so it takes longer than that suggests.
It’s one of the harder areas for the ferry: without a car you’ll need a taxi or a change of transport to reach the port. If Rhodes is part of your plan, end your holiday with a night in the centre. Turunç suits couples who want a quiet holiday away from the crowds.
Selimiye / Bozburun
Selimiye and Bozburun are fishing villages deep in the Bozburun peninsula, with stone houses, waterside restaurants, anchored gulets and a slow village pace. They’re best for several nights or a full week with nothing to rush for.
They don’t work as a base for the Rhodes ferry; the port is far away and the drive is long. If you’re touring the peninsula by car, a night or two in Selimiye followed by a move back to the centre works well. We include one Selimiye hotel below; Bozburun is worth considering only for a longer holiday.

Practical tips
Where does the Rhodes ferry leave from?
Ferries from Marmaris to Rhodes leave from the Marmaris passenger port (Yolcu Limanı) in town. It sits on the Günnücek National Park side, about 100 m past the Netsel Marina entrance, roughly a 15-minute walk from the centre. Times, operators and ticket details are in our Marmaris to Rhodes ferry guide.
Getting to the port
- Old town and marina: most hotels are within walking distance. With heavy bags, a short taxi ride does the job.
- Uzunyalı – Siteler and İçmeler: pink-striped municipal dolmuş minibuses run from the centre to the port entrance; look for the “Yalancı Boğaz” sign. From Siteler or İçmeler, ride into the centre and change. For early sailings, a taxi is more reliable.
- Turunç, Selimiye, Bozburun: taxi or rental car. We’d recommend spending the night before the ferry in the centre.
- There is a taxi rank inside the port, so getting back to your hotel after a day in Rhodes is easy.
It’s an international crossing with passport control, so allow time; sources recommend arriving 45–60 minutes before departure.
Visiting Rhodes from Marmaris
A day trip is easy from a central base. If you’d rather spend a night or two on the island, see where to stay in Rhodes. Check the entry rules that apply to your passport before you travel, as you’ll be entering the Schengen area.
When to book
July and August, plus Turkish public holidays, fill the small hotels in the centre and the popular beach hotels early. Book your hotel as soon as you have your ferry tickets. May, June, September and October are easier on both price and crowds, and the sea is still warm enough to swim. Ferries run less often in winter and some beach hotels close.
Do you need a car?
Not if you stay in the centre and take the ferry to Rhodes. From Uzunyalı–Siteler and İçmeler you can manage with dolmuş and taxis. If you want to explore Turunç, Selimiye and Bozburun, a rental car makes life much easier. Some central hotels have no parking, so ask before booking if you’re driving.

FAQ
Which area of Marmaris is best for the Rhodes ferry?
The old town and marina between the castle and Netsel Marina. The passenger port is about a 15-minute walk from the centre, so you can make an early boat without a taxi.
Can I stay in İçmeler and do a day trip to Rhodes?
Yes, but plan your transfer. Take a dolmuş into the centre and change for the port, or take a taxi. For an early-morning sailing, a taxi is the safer bet.
Where should families stay in Marmaris?
If beach time and kids’ facilities matter, the hotels with pools and kids’ clubs on the Uzunyalı–Siteler seafront are a good choice, and the centre and port are a short taxi ride away. For a single night before the ferry, a central hotel with family rooms is enough.
Is it noisy near Bar Street?
In summer, it can be. Bar Street and the marina stay busy until late. If you want quiet, choose a hotel in the upper old town or out towards Siteler.
Does it make sense to visit Rhodes while staying in Turunç?
It’s possible but takes effort; Turunç is far from the port and hard to reach without a car. Spending your last night in the centre and crossing to Rhodes the next morning is easier.
Is breakfast usually included?
It depends on the hotel. Large beach hotels usually offer a buffet breakfast or all-inclusive rates, while central apartments and boutique stays may not include breakfast. Check the rate details when you book.
