Coast to Island is an independent guide to the ferry crossings from the Turkish coast to the Greek islands, written by Emre Erol (Impressum). This page explains where our information comes from and how far you can rely on it.
Our sources
We use the most primary source available, in this order:
- Official sources: the Greek Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Hellenic Parliament documents, the European Commission, Turkey’s official e-Visa site and Turkish Ministry of Transport data.
- Ferry operators’ own pages: timetables, fares and conditions.
- Ferry booking sites: Ferryhopper, Ferryscanner, Direct Ferries and similar, when an operator’s own page is unavailable.
- Press: Turkish and Greek newspapers, with publication dates, especially where they report official announcements.
Every guide ends with a list of the sources we used.
How we verify
- We say when sources disagree. If crossing times or fares differ between sources, we give a range and say so rather than picking one number.
- We flag what we could not verify. Rules we could not find in an official text are marked as unverified.
- We date changing facts. Prices and timetables carry an “as of” date, and every page shows when it was last checked.
- We check hotels on their booking pages. We confirm each recommended hotel’s listing is live and its rating current. We have not stayed at these hotels; we pick them on location, published details and guest ratings.
We use AI tools in our research and writing. Every concrete fact we publish is checked against a source, and the sources are listed on the page.
How often we update
- Ferry routes and timetables: a full review at the start (spring) and end (autumn) of each season. The ferry map follows these reviews.
- Visa and border rules: as soon as an official change is announced.
- Hotels: at least twice a year.
How we make money
Some links are affiliate links: if you book a tour or hotel through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Ferry operators do not pay us and have no say over which routes or companies we cover. See our affiliate disclosure.
