The fast ferry from Marmaris to Rhodes takes about 50–60 minutes. It sails daily in summer and on fewer days in winter. You arrive in Rhodes Town, right by the walls of the medieval Old Town, so a day trip works well as long as your passport and visa situation allows you to leave Turkey, enter the Schengen Area and get back into Turkey.

Summer: There are several crossings a day in summer. Ferryhopper describes roughly two morning and two afternoon sailings in peak season.

Winter: One Turkish ferry guide gives a winter timetable from 16 November to 28 February, with sailings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Ferryhopper lists the route as year-round but shows only one or two sailings a week in December. Confirm the 2026–27 winter days with the operator before you plan around them.

Passports and visas

This crossing takes you out of Turkey and into the Schengen Area, so there are three things to check before you book.

  1. Leaving Turkey: You pass Turkish exit control at Marmaris. If you entered Turkey on a single-entry visa or e-visa, check whether it still lets you back in after this trip.
  2. Entering Greece: Rhodes is in the Schengen Area. EU/EEA citizens can travel with a passport or national ID card. Many nationalities can visit visa-free for short stays; others need a Schengen visa issued before travel. Since April 2026 the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is fully in place, so non-EU visitors have their fingerprints and a facial image recorded at the border instead of getting a passport stamp. Allow a little extra time at Rhodes port.
  3. Returning to Turkey: If your nationality needs a visa for Turkey, make sure you can re-enter. That means either a multiple-entry visa or a new e-visa from the official site, evisa.gov.tr. Check this before you buy a return ticket.

Rules depend on your passport, so confirm with official government sources for your nationality. The Greek “express visa” sold at Turkish ports is only for Turkish citizens and doesn’t apply to foreign tourists.

FAQ

How long is the ferry from Marmaris to Rhodes?

About 50–60 minutes, a little longer in rough weather or when the port is congested.

Does the ferry run in winter?

Yes, but not every day. One source gives Monday, Wednesday and Saturday sailings from mid-November to the end of February, while Ferryhopper shows fewer in December. Check with the operator.

Can I take a car or rental car to Rhodes?

No. The fast ferries on this route carry passengers only. Rent a car on Rhodes if you need one.

Is there a ferry from Fethiye to Rhodes?

Yes. Ferryhopper lists Tilos Travel, Sky Marine Ferries and IDO on Fethiye–Rhodes. The crossing takes about 1 hour 25–30 minutes, with more sailings in summer and a few days a week in winter. Fares start from around €27.50 (Ferryhopper, October 2026).

Will I need a new Turkish visa to come back?

It depends on your nationality and the visa you entered on. A single-entry visa may not cover a second entry. Check evisa.gov.tr or your government’s travel advice before you go.

Is a day trip worth it?

For the Old Town and the palace, yes. You get about six hours, which is enough to explore on foot and have lunch. Adding Lindos makes for a rushed day, so stay overnight if you want both.
