Ferries from Kuşadası to Samos run daily in summer and take roughly 30 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on the boat and which Samos port you land at. Morning departures and late-afternoon returns make a day trip easy. You are leaving Turkey and entering Greece and the Schengen area, so bring your passport and check your visa situation in both directions.

Quick answer

Sailings and operators

Ferries from Kuşadası use two ports on Samos:

Meander Travel sells a “Flex Port” ticket that lets you arrive at one port and leave from the other, which is handy if you want to cross the island in a day.

Operator Samos port Approx. crossing Notes
Meander Travel Vathy and Pythagorio 1–1.5 h (some Vathy sailings ~30 min) Daily in summer; mobile e-ticket check-in
Makri / Tilos Travel Vathy ~45 min Sea Star boats; collect printed ticket at the port
IDO Vathy and Pythagorio ~30–45 min Seasonal; collect printed ticket at the port
Aegean Shipping Company Pythagorio ~1 h A few sailings a week

Summer 2026 pattern (per aggregator listings): from Kuşadası at 08:15 to Vathy (Tilos), 08:30 to Pythagorio (Meander) and 09:15 to Vathy (Meander); returns from Samos between 17:00 and 18:15. Extra sailings were listed on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 14 June to 18 October. Sources disagree on weekly frequencies, so confirm the timetable for your date when booking.

Winter: from November to March, sailings drop to a few days a week, mostly to Vathy, and some weeks see a single round trip.

Cars: this is effectively a foot-passenger route. Booking sites do not sell car fares; occasional vehicle crossings need to be arranged by phone.

Tickets and the port

Booking: directly with the operators or via Ferryhopper and Ferryscanner. Summer weekends can sell out, so book a few days ahead.

Fares: one-way adult tickets start around 37–39 € for summer 2026 (as of October 2026, feribotseferleri.com.tr and samosaferibot.com). Same-day returns were listed around 47 €, open-date returns around 55–59 €. Aggregators show lower promotional fares on some dates. Check whether port taxes are included, and expect prices to change.

Ticket rules: tickets are issued in the passenger’s name and cannot be transferred; standard tickets are generally non-refundable. Weather cancellations are refunded or moved to another sailing.

At the port: in Kuşadası, the passenger terminal is at Ege Port, walking distance from the town centre. Arrive at least 1 hour before departure. The usual sequence:

  1. Exchange your e-ticket for a boarding pass at the counter (IDO and Makri need a printed ticket).
  2. Security X-ray and customs.
  3. Turkish passport control and exit stamp.
  4. Board. On arrival in Samos you go through Greek passport control, which is your Schengen entry.

What to carry: passport, visa if needed, boarding pass, euros or a card. Usually one suitcase plus a small bag travels free. Greece uses the euro.

Passports & visas

Leaving Turkey: you get a Turkish exit stamp in Kuşadası. If you entered Turkey on a single-entry visa, that visa is used up when you leave, and you will need a new one to come back. Check whether your Turkish visa or e-visa is single or multiple entry before you go; get the official version from evisa.gov.tr. Turkey also requires your passport to be valid for at least 60 days beyond the end of your permitted stay.

Entering Greece: Samos is in the Schengen area, and the Greek passport check on arrival is your Schengen entry. Non-EU travellers from visa-exempt countries can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period across Schengen. Nationalities on the EU visa list (Annex I of Regulation 2018/1806) need a Schengen visa before travelling. EU citizens should still carry a passport, as advised by Ferryhopper for this border.

Turkish citizens: a separate express-visa scheme lets Turkish passport holders visit Samos and 11 other eastern Aegean islands for up to 7 days. It was extended in April 2026 until April 2027. This does not apply to other nationalities.

Coming back the same day: a same-day visit still counts as a Schengen day, and you pass Turkish passport control again on return. Keep your passport on you all day.

FAQ

Can I do Samos as a day trip from Kuşadası?

Yes. In summer you can leave in the morning and return on a 17:00–18:15 sailing. Make sure your Turkish visa allows re-entry.

Vathy or Pythagorio?

Pythagorio for the ancient sites and beaches, Vathy for the shortest crossing and the town. A Flex Port ticket lets you combine both.

Can I take a car?

Not in practice. The route uses passenger boats, and vehicle crossings are rare and arranged by phone.

Do I need a Schengen visa?

Only if your nationality is on the EU visa list. Visa-exempt travellers just need a valid passport and count the day toward their 90/180 allowance.

Do ferries run in winter?

Yes, but only a few days a week, mostly to Vathy. Check the winter timetable when booking.

How early should I be at the port?

At least an hour before departure, more on busy summer mornings.
